If you’re unable to participate in the live auction or prefer to use automatic bidding, you can set a limit – the maximum amount up to which the system will bid on your behalf during the live auction. The limit you set is not visible to other users and can be freely modified or removed until the live bidding for that specific lot begins.
To use the option of setting a limit, follow the steps below:
1. Locate the lot you want to bid on in the selected auction.
2. Open the lot’s page.
3. Find the Set a limit frame located on the right side of the screen (on a computer) or in the bar at the bottom of the screen (on a mobile device).
4. In the Set a limit frame, in a designated field, enter the maximum amount you are ready to offer during the live auction.
5. Once the bidding for the lot begins, the system will start bidding on your behalf, ensuring that the maximum amount you set is not exceeded.Don’t worry! The system won’t immediately offer the full amount you’ve set. It will place increment bids in a way that ensures winning the pre-auction with the smallest possible amount.
Important! If the lot’s price exceeds the amount you set, you can continue bidding in person during the live auction. The system will bid on your behalf only up to the specified limit.
The key differences between placing an offer in the pre-auction and setting a limit are presented in the section What is the difference between a limit and an offer?
