Artwork description:
Wiktor Zin, a well-known architect and restorer of monuments, was particularly fond of subjects related to his own profession in his paintings.
He depicted works of Polish construction often balancing between reality and imagination, making various conjectures about the original forms of individual buildings, their later transformations and the architectural intentions of their creators.
The featured watercolor shows Wiktor Zin's architectural vision of a wooden religious building from the Malopolska region - the Holy Trinity Church in Ivanowice, erected in the 18th century, whose history dates back to the late Middle Ages. The temple, originally Catholic, was taken over by the Polish Brethren in the 16th century and re-consecrated as a Catholic church in the 17th century. In the 19th and 20th centuries it underwent further transformations, both in its mass and interior design. The current form of the building is distinguished by a massive facade with two towers topped by domed cupolas, a slightly protruding porch with a sloping roof and a characteristic gable decorated with a wooden crucifix. All these elements have been included in the work of Viktor Zin, although the artist decided to introduce some significant changes.
These included the composition of the towers, which Viktor Zin divided into four tiers. The finials were shown in a form similar to Baroque, bubbled helmets, usually covered with shingles instead of sheet metal. The professor also enriched the structure of the towers with additional window openings located in their central part. The entrance opening, finished with a segmental arch, was equipped with a decorative door with a glass filling in the upper part. The roof of the porch was presented by the artist in a simplified form - without the decorative rosette, which decorated the Ivanovichi church at that time. The view of the church's facade was complemented by a fanciful, freely painted landscape, which gives the impression of harmony between the architecture and the surrounding natural environment.
