Work description:
Tamara Berdowska's work is known for her non-representational compositions, created in the trend of geometric abstraction.
By the complexity of the forms that evoke visual illusion, the artist is also counted among the artists associated with op-art. Tamara Berdowska deliberately avoids depicting reality that can be seen and touched. Her work develops in series of works, reflecting personal development. The artist usually uses simple geometric figures: square, circle and rhombus. The color blue, which often dominates the paintings, is also an important element of her works.
The 2018 work presented in the auction offer affects the viewer with cool shades of blues and blueness. The composition, composed of small squares in different tones, gives the effect of an illusion of multifacetedness to the canvas and seems to exude an alternating glow. The elements interpenetrate each other, also giving the impression of movement and expression. The jittery form contrasts strongly with the picture plane - smooth and matte, with a subtle, regular texture barely discernible. Color and light in Tamara Berdowska's paintings have a symbolic meaning - they induce reverie, meditation, evoke associations with the cosmos and remind of the passing of time.
