Artwork description:
In Polish art history, the figure of Henryk Stażewski is described as a pioneer of the European avant-garde of the interwar period, but the artist is also widely known for his constructivist compositions created after the 1956 thaw.
The work on display is part of the formula of abstraction characteristic of Henryk Stażewski's late art, in which he juxtaposed shades of different, but often adjacent on the color wheel, colors in precisely defined geometric arrangements. This type of composition was a starting point for the artist to understand and explore the issue of depicting space in painting.
"Composition No. 135" was built on the basis of colors passing from pink to purple, which the artist either clearly contrasted with each other or superimposed on each other. At the same time he divided the whole into distinct geometric fields. This way of showing the relationship between shades of color affects the dynamism of the work and creates an impression of depth.
