An excerpt from Tadeusz Matuszczak's opinion:
"The sketch in question is an excellent example of Chełmoński's fascination with the seemingly mundane motif of widely spilled water. A swollen, rushing stream spills over the meadows. The turbulent current swirls, overflowing beyond the frame of the painting. The viewer almost dodges. The element is raging. And the element is what fascinates, enchants, bewilders Chełmoński."
The painting is a refined painter's sketch for a large-format (106 x 160 cm) composition once owned by Kazimierz Natanson (1853-1935), a Warsaw businessman and banker. The canvas is now considered lost.
