Description of work:
The artistic work of Konrad Jarodzki, an architect, painter, draughtsman and lecturer at the Academy of Fine Arts in Wroclaw, oscillated around surrealism and abstraction. In his works, the artist referred to the surrounding reality, conducting a creative exploration of physical phenomena, the surrounding nature and commenting on current events. He was interested in armed conflicts, climate catastrophe and scientific progress. He expressed his own experiences and reflections through painting means such as color, texture and rhythm.
The presented work titled. "Wżer", created in 2016, is probably part of a series dedicated to the victims of the World Trade Center disaster. The paintings in this series began to be created a year after the tragic event and were created by Konrad Jarodzki until the last years of his life. The canvases are characterized by a combination of vertical structures maintained in shades of gray with a clear, centrally placed diagonal motif, reminiscent of an explosion, flare or rupture, illustrating the movement, light and sound, accompanying the catastrophic events. The motifs placed in the center of the paintings are usually kept in dark tones, going from dark blue to black, sometimes supplemented by accents of strong color. The author sometimes introduced more organic forms, at other times - as in the proposed work - geometrizing structures, combinations of squares, rectangles and triangles dominated.
