Description of work:
Friedrich Iwan was a painter and printmaker, specializing in landscape depictions. In his works he immortalized the sights that surrounded him every day at various times in his life, painting landscapes of Germany, Lower Silesia and the Sudetenland.
The watercolor offered at the August auction is a shot of a broad landscape from the vicinity of the town of Bolkow (German: Bolkenhain). In the foreground stretch farmlands and meadows, while in the distance there are recognizable elements of historic architecture characteristic of the region - on the left there are visible the walls of the Świna castle, whose history dates back to the Middle Ages, while on the right there is the town of Bolków along with the castle of the same name and equally long history towering over it. The whole picture is framed in the artist's characteristic pastel colors with a dominance of sophisticated greens and blues, with a masterful use of aerial perspective. Thus, the presented large-format watercolor is a magnificent picture of Silesian nature and monuments immortalized by the brush of a painter respected in Poland and the West.
